CNC tools in high-performance, high-precision CNC machine tool applications, in order to achieve stable and good processing efficiency, generally from the design, manufacture and use of CNC tools have put forward higher than ordinary tool requirements. The main differences between a CNC tool and a regular tool are in the following areas.
(1) Highly accurate manufacturing quality
In order to stabilize the processing of high-precision parts surface, therefore, the manufacturing of tools (including tool parts) in the accuracy, surface roughness, shape tolerance and other aspects of the more stringent requirements than ordinary tools, especially indexable tools, in order to ensure the repeat accuracy of the insert tip (cutting edge) in the size of the indexed, the size and accuracy of the tool body groove and positioning parts and other key parts, surface roughness must be strictly guaranteed, and at the same time, in order to facilitate the tool in the tool setter and size measurement, base machining accuracy should also be guaranteed.
(2) Optimization of tool construction
Advanced tool structure can greatly improve the cutting efficiency, such as high-speed steel CNC milling tools in the structure of the more waveform edge and large spiral angle structure, carbide indexable tool is used in the cooling, inserts stand-mounted, module exchangeable and adjustable structure, and such as the cooling structure, is generally ordinary machine tools can not be applied.
(3) Extensive use of high-quality materials for cutting tools
In order to extend the tool life and improve the tool strength, many CNC tool body materials are made of high-strength alloy steel and heat-treated (such as nitriding and other surface treatment), so that it can be suitable for large cutting volume, and the tool life can also be significantly improved (ordinary tools are generally used in medium carbon steel after tempering treatment). For the cutting edge material, CNC tools are available in a variety of new grades of carbide (fine or ultrafine) and ultra-hard tool materials.
(4) Reasonable choice of chip breakers
The tools used on CNC machines have strict requirements for chipbreakers. Therefore, whether CNC turning, milling, drilling or boring machines, the inserts are optimized for different machining materials and processes with a reasonable chip breaking groove type to ensure stable chip breaking during cutting.
(5) Coating treatment of tool (blade) surfaces
The emergence and development of tool (blade) surface coating technology is mainly due to the emergence and development of CNC tools. As the coating can significantly improve tool hardness, reduce friction, improve cutting efficiency and service life, so in all kinds of carbide indexable CNC tools above most of the coating technology is used. The coated carbide inserts also allow for dry cutting, which also creates the conditions for green cutting for the environment.
